The author of this Chinese proverb obviously never dealt with the modern health care system!
For the past few weeks, I have had a myriad of strange symptoms that has stumped a team of doctors regarding a cause. Lab tests have been done...some with irrelevant results, some with inconclusive results. The most important test, one on which the doctors hang their hope of finally diagnosing my problem, is still pending in a laboratory in Virginia. I have been waiting 8 days for results from this test...being told initially when I had the test..."You'll have results by the end of the week." The end of the week came, and a phone call resulted in "You should have results by mid-week of next week." OK, that would be today. NO RESULTS! A call from my nephrologist to the lab did not spur a more positive response...he was told "results should be available by the end of the week." Here we go again!
If I sound frustrated, its because I am. I don't feel well, my blood sugar is hovering well above normal; my blood pressure yo-yo's up and down; my potassium level keeps bottoming out; and my fatigue is becoming quite annoying. Is it too much to want to know what is wrong with me?
Someone said to me on the phone today "Do you think God is trying to teach you a lesson in patience?" Maybe so. Is this the way I would choose to learn? Definitely not. Am I one to second guess God? No way.
So, where does that leave me? For now, praying for patience and hoping that I will have a solution to my health problems soon; reminding myself that everything happens for a reason and God has a purpose for every trial we endure.
James 1:2-4 "Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
James 1:12 "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him."
