WAITING....on God

Posted on November 17, 2011 at 9:50 PM

April 2012 will mark the end of the second year since I was separated from my dream job. Finances are beginning to be a challenge, as savings are now depleted and unemployment has expired. I’ve applied for hundreds of positions, but have had no success in obtaining another job. I have had days of depression, days of anxiousness, days of anticipation, and days of fear since then…a rollercoaster of emotions. I’ve prayed that God would show me what His plans for my life were now, what path I should take. I’ve prayed continually, but as of yet, I am not aware of an answer. As I turned to Scripture for advice and comfort, I decided to look for verses that referred to “waiting on the Lord”…

Psalms 25:3   ‘ Indeed, none of those who wait for Thee will be ashamed;’

Psalms 25:5   ‘Lead me in Thy truth and teach me, For Thou art the God of my salvation; For Thee I wait all the day’.

Psalms 25:21   ‘Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, For I wait for Thee.’

Psalms 27:14   ‘Wait for the LORD; Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.’

Psalms 33:20   ‘Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.’

Psalms 37:7   ‘Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.’

Psalms 37:9   ‘For evildoers will be cut off, But those who wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land.’

Psalms 37:34   ‘Wait for the LORD, and keep His way, And He will exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you will see it.’

Proverbs 20:22   ‘Do not say, "I will repay evil"; Wait for the LORD, and He will save you.’

Isaiah 8:17   ‘And I will wait for the LORD who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob; I will even look eagerly for Him’.

Isaiah 40:31 ‘  Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.’

Psalm 52:9   ‘I will give Thee thanks forever, because Thou hast done it, And I will wait on Thy name, for it is good, in the presence of Thy godly ones.’

Isaiah 49:23   ‘And you will know that I am the LORD; Those who hopefully wait for Me will not be put to shame’.

Isaiah 64:4   ‘For from of old they have not heard nor perceived by ear, Neither has the eye seen a God besides Thee, Who acts in behalf of the one who waits for Him.’

Lamentations 3:25   ‘The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, To the person who seeks Him.’

Hosea 12:6   'Therefore, return to your God, Observe kindness and justice, And wait for your God continually.'

Micah 7:7   ‘But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.’

Zephaniah 3:8   "Therefore, wait for Me," declares the LORD, "For the day when I rise up to the prey...’

Philippians 3:20   “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ…”

1Thessalonians 1:10   ‘...and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come.’

I am sure that there are more verses than those I found, but this research reassured me that I am to continue to pray and trust that God has a plan for me and that everything is in His time.

I’ve concluded that “waiting upon God” is not only biblical but a necessary part of the Christian life for the growing Christian. It is an active display of faith in God during what seems to be impossible situations.
